No matter what store I go into there is a percentage of the patrons that are not wearing face masks. I find myself thinking, “What do these people know about Covid-19 that I don’t know?” This, of course, is a rhetorical question because the answer is that the maskless public doesn’t know anything about Covid-19. Those that choose not to wear a face mask are shooting craps with their lives, and if infected by the virus and still moving around in public, are endangering the lives of all that they contact.
The SARS-C0V-2 virus is called a “novel” virus for a reason. It has only been known for about six months! The scientific community is still learning about this coronavirus. They are still trying to answer the following questions: If you get and successfully recover from Covid-9, will you be immune? They don’t know. If you are immune, how long will you be immune? They don’t know. Can we expect the SARS-Cov-2 virus to stay in its present form, or will it mutate into a new variety that you are not immune to? They don’t know. What the health professionals do know is that if you wear a face mask, practice physical and social distancing, and regularly wash your hands then you are minimizing your risk of contracting the virus, or passing it on to others. If you have chosen not to wear a mask because you think it is not necessary, please contact the WHO, CDC, or the NIH and let them in on any hidden knowledge you might have on this virus.
